how did they predict... (plot alert)

That he would jump on that spot (if he would stem 1m l/r, he would miss that window), crash only throgh glass and not hit the metal holders (wich would kill him), and finnaly fall right in the middle of the X?

I get why you're questioning this... and hate to give this cliched answer but.. its just a movie. A lot of crazy things happen every day that make people go "how the hell did that happen?" or "what are the chances of that heppining?"... Look at life itself as an example, everything had to be perfect here on earth for the first organism to come into existence. Not trying to twll you or anyone how to think or how to watch a movie but When you're watching a movie, its probably best to remind yourself about what I said and mostly everything in movies aremeant to happen as you see it.

They gave Nickie all those psychological tests and fitness exams to see what he could handle and then they predicted what he would do in certain situations. X marks the spot.

Feingold said it explicitly, if Nicholas hadn't jumped, Feingold was supposed to throw him off.

By extension, if Nicholas started moving to the wrong spot, Feingold would presumably step in and guide him

Basically, CRS decided that Nicholas needed to jump to get past his father's suicide. I can easily imagine them breaking character to tell him that, if he either refused to jump or tried to jump in the wrong place.

Good stuff, ETO.

SPOILER - - - If he didn't jump on his own he was supposed to be pushed off.

If he jumped and missed they get to keep his money. It's a win/win

HAHAHA!

I never got why he would jump, and that guy saying, "if you didn't jump I would push you". WTF?! The script was ridiculous, but it held my interest, at least for one viewing.. I liked the film when I saw it in a Budapest theater in 1998. But definitely not worth seeing more than once.

Suspension of disbelief but even for me this act was in itself too implausible even if it was planned. The same could be said for the cab crashing into the water. I doubt their medical examination would be able to discount any risk of heart attack based on traumatic experience. Nicholas lived a life of privilege and to think that he could handle such things without being shocked to death just seems too much of a stretch, but again you have to suspend disbelief.

I think this movie didn't take itself and wasn't meant to be taken too seriously. X in the end was just final visual joke and icing on the cake. A good movie, but not quite in the top3 from Fincher.
