Nick's lawyer

When Nick is heading up to Anson Baer's flat, the lawyer doesn't say, "Oh, I saw Baer this morning and he signed those papers." Plus, Nick doesn't bring it up afterwards either, after he disrupts their lunch using profanity in front of his wife and daughter, throwing the faked Polaroids down.

It's a reasonable question why the lawyer doesn't mention he'd already talked to Baer, but suspension of disbelief doesn't fail for me because Nick's in such a tither it's reasonable to think that the lawyer's not in the habit of interrupting Nick at such times. Plus, that they're going to Baer's place could cause the lawyer to assume Nick already knows about the meeting where papers were signed.

I think the lawyer would at least wonder why Nick was so upset on the way upstairs and tell him to calm down since Baer took the retirement deal earlier that same day, after all.

You're reading into the movie things which aren't there.

I am asking WHY it wasn't there. The conversation when they left Baer's should have been thus:

Nick: "Why did you let me make such a fool of myself in there?!"

Lawyer: "I thought you knew Baer signed off on the deal this morning."

Nick: "If I knew that, why would I be so angry, calling you and running up here like a madman?"

Lawyer: "Um, this is part of your Game. Find yourself another lawyer. I don't need this sh!t."

It wasn't there because it wasn't necessary. If I recall accurately the lawyer states that he thought Nick knew about the meeting the lawyer had with Baer and that's enough explanation to relieve the lawyer from culpability.

As for your suggested lawyer statement about The Game, I know you're kidding because you know that the lawyer had all along been unaware of any game, a fact brought out at the party after the game was complete.
