If you couldn't make it through...

On the DVD interview, the director says something to the extent of "the people who watch Funny Games to the end are the people who need to."

I've seen a lot of "couldn't finish" topics so I figured I would share this for those who are interested.

Also, by the same token, he says that it's hypocritical to make it through to the end and then trash it. I'm not accusing anyone, just sharing some info from the DVD.

It's hypocritical to not like a movie? I suppose its our own fault if we continue to watch but anyone who doesn't watch a movie all the way through has no validity to their opinion correct?

This comment was more directed at people complaining about how violent it was and how he could be such a bad person to make such a movie. namely the film festival audiences, not manic teenage consumer whores.

It's indeed hypocritical to keep on watching and bitching afterwards.

Well yeah I guess I agree with that, I mean once they break the guys leg and show you the dead dog it's pretty clear what you in for so if you're opposed you should stop because it's impossible the film with change genres or 'get better'.
Though I don't think it's always hypocritical, it depends why you keep watching. And even if it is hypocritical in alot of cases I still think it's worse to not watch a film fully before judging it as a whole.

Very different opinion from most I've seen on IMDb. Most posts I've read claim that you shouldn't criticize, UNLESS you've seen the whole thing.

My own opinion is that you can complain any d** time you want to.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them ...well, I have others.

By today's standards the film wasn't violent at all. Gore buffs might even be bored by it. The only reason I could see for not making it all the way to the ending is the 10 minute single cam shot, it was far too tedious and I was tempted to hit fast forward. From what I read of the director he seems really pretentious and if I were to turn off the movie at that point it would just mean i was BORED, not that i didn't "get it".

After looking at the trivia that says people at the film festival were so shocked that they walked out, I rolled my eyes. That's something producers SAY to make people think their movie is so extreme. I bet a couple people walked out of the film (from boredom), then later heard that they must have walked out because they were so shocked, and thought 'what a load of crap.'
