this film is depressing to me

because everything that happens throughout the movie is something only salma hayek can get.

her character (isabel fuentes) a marriage and a perfect baby with matthew perry's gorgeous & wealthy character (alex whitman). very protective macho father and brothers. totally overshadowing the beautiful suzanne snyder's character (cathy stewart)...which is something ONLY salma hayek can do! and as if that weren't enough, constant male attention throughout the film!!

i don't know. to me it sends the message to girls that you have to look like salma hayek in order to get extreme happiness in your life. i remember being in college when that movie came out and i saw it on tape several months later, and being in my awkward phase back then it made me feel completely crestfallen. :(

I was in university when this came out, and I really enjoyed the movie! I saw it a few times on VHS, and now I own the DVD.

The guy treated her like trash after they got together and married to the point of being downright hateful in some parts and besides him being a jerk he lied to her all the time. I hardly consider that she had some perfect life and some perfect guy. If you felt she had a dream life and a fairy tale then I am more concerned about what you consider to be "perfect" and wonderful. And regardless of the "happy ending" on-screen there is no way they just had a happy life after this.

And constant attention from men is not all about looks. A lot of it is about someone's personality, regardless whether the movie portrays that or not. I know a couple of girls who are WAY below average in looks who get attention from men. It's not all about that.

Last I checked, there were plenty of women less attractive than Salma who have a husband, a baby, and a protective father and brothers. Alex was hardly the ideal husband so I'm not sure their marriage is anything to be jealous of. There are also millions of women considerably less attractive who get "constant male attention." Not to mention Alex didn't like Cathy even before he met Isabel. So Isabel didn't "overshadow" her.
