I love this movie, but...

Just what the hell was Zorg's long term goal supposed to be? He's agreed to help an evil being destroy all life so that he can get rich(er)? Even if that thing was going to spare him, what point is there in being the one thing alive in the universe!

That makes no fucking sense!

Don’t think about it too much & enjoy the ride.
Although, you have a good point.

reply

I don't think he even necessarily had one; as I recall, his whole reasoning, as he puts it to Cornelius, is that "destruction and chaos make things interesting".

reply

Not interesting; he said "life comes from destruction, disorder and chaos". I get the impression he wanted to profit from the rebuild effort so he wanted to help it get destroyed. Similar to Moriarty's goal in Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows.

reply

Yeah, that sounds about right. It's been a long time since I've watched it.

He planned on profiting from the rebuilding effort. He actually states it, in a delusional way, when talking to the priest. It is his actual goal. He want to be the primary means for the production of the rebuild and will use the additional resources he gets from Evil to do this.

He does not realize that there won't be a rebuild effort and that everything and everyone will die. He is deluded by corruption and profit/business only. The idea of it is capitalist without morals gone as wrong as imaginable.

Also he may have rationalized it as Evil was unstoppable so he wanted to 'serve' him to get out of being destroyed. In addition to that, Evil might have poisoned his mind or been lying to him. Zorg was already a Corrupt and morally bankrupted person, so to further corrupt him wouldn't take too much persuasion.

At least that is how I interpreted it. I love this movie too and Zorg is just such a fun evil character I can overlook some of the short comings of his long term plans.

I love the movie too, but the story is all over the place.
