What was LeeLoo wearing when she died in the crash?

The hand they recovered her body with was contained in a pretty elaborate looking glove (like the ones the mondeshewans wear). In the beginning of the movie, I assume she was encased in that sarcophogus thing, which had hand parts, but they didn't look like they could move much, and the hand that was in the crash was grasped around the stones' case's handle.

Was she outfitted in Modeshawan gear or something? I wish this was explained somewhere.

It was the sarcophagus you saw in the beginning.

So when did she hide the stones with Plavalaguna. I think we can assume she was freed from the sarcophagus at some point, no? And, again, why would she be grasping the handle from a sarcophagus? Functionally that just sounds idiotic

reply

It was not the sarcophagus. Leeloo had a kind of power suit, which was destroyed by the crash. The glove was the only thing that survived the crash.

Leeloo was created for a kind of purpose and so was the Diva. The Diva was ment to carry the stones within herself from the very beginning. The stones never were in that case, they always were inside the Diva since they took the stones from Earth in 1914.

reply

The power suit burnt away in the crash, only the hand was left and Leeloo had to be rebuilt.

I always assumed the case was salvaged from the wreckage immediately by the Magalores. Since LeeLoo was wearing Mondoshiwan armor and had a death grip on the handle, it was just quicker and easier to blow the hand off at the wrist. Then they could have torn the handle off the case and discarded in near the crash site before fleeing. They even make a point of showing the case with the missing handle in the warehouse scene.

That would leave the rest of LeeLoo's body and her Mondoshiwan escorts to burn up with the rest of the transport ship.

Mhhh... interesting point. But why should they shoot off the hand, as in the end it was easier to ripp of the handle from the case? But yeah it leaves the question why only the hand and those fragile case survived the crash. I have to think about that...

reply

It was a Monoshawan suit. Remember we don't know what Mondoshawan actually look like...My thoughts go that they are humanoid in nature. It's not her sarcophagus...the hands on that are static and attached to the side of the sculpt, not to mention they look completely unlike the hand brought to the Nucleo-lab.

My guess is that the 5th Element was a Mondoshawan, not a human. When the military recovered the severed hand from the crash, they brought it up to the lab and scientists interpreted and reconstructed the salvaged organism in human form, since the "body" reactor was made to reconstruct human organisms only, hence the plasma/organic fluids used to constitute bones, bloodstream, nerves, muscles, etc. Leeloo is the human incarnation of the 5th Element.

Well I think she was human. The reason is simple: She was constructed to protect the stones and also the temple and as human she was easier to be accepted and may be supported by the locals.

In the 1995 draft ans also the books she tells Corben, that she was made to protect but not to love. She was created and she was created in the Image of a human.

reply

leeloo is not the fifth element.
Love is the fifth element.
thats why in the end Corbon had to kiss her and tell her he loved her

reply

Remember that Cornelius tells Korben how the Mondoshawan created her. She is not specifically human, and she is not specifically Mondoshawan, either. The Diva is also a Mondoshawan creation, which are only expounded on in the book and script from 1995. Even Cornelius knows she is more than human "They made her so fragile, so human..." , but there would be no reason for her to be a Mondoshawan because they created her specifically for one job. The Mondoshawan are guardians.

I noticed for the first time today that the case that the warriors bring to Zorg had one of the handles busted off. The other handle looked just like the one that the the "glove" was holding. So, she must've been wearing some kind of battle armor.

reply

I always thought the mondoshawans were mostly naked and that was a hand, not a glove.

Yes.
