Does anyone know if Rodney Brooks, the Robot Scientist, is from Australia? If so, where abouts?
This movie is on the TV in front of me right now... and he he doesn't sound like he has an accent (I mean... compared to me, an Australian).
Yes, he's from Adelaide, South Australia. He studied at Flinders University in the 1970's getting his first degree in pure maths. By the 1980's he had moved to the USA, where he still resides. He was pretty bright at Uni and I think he nearly got the university prize but the competition was pretty tough the year he was going for it. Since then he has moved into AI and computer science with various higher degrees.See wikipedia.

let me preface this by saying that i am an american, but i am not a stupid american. i could probably tell the difference between an australian accent and a new zealand accent, let alone an english accent. but i too was confounded by prof. brooks' accent until i realised that the one person i could think of that spoke almost exactly like him (minus the 'gravel') is clive barker. their inflections and intonations are very similar, but clive barker was born and raised in liverpool. i am still perplexed by this....
