I live in the Uk and theres currently a touring production of Fame, and theres the character Carmen who dies at the end through a drug overdose. The show basically focuses around the students at the performing arts school, theres Tyrone who cant read, Schlomo whose dad is a famous pianist, Nick who is a professional actor, Serena who has a crush on nick, Carmen who leaves to go to LA, Mabel who is an overweight dancer so she decides to switch to drama, Joe Vegas who is a spanish comedy actor (he has a really funny song in the show) and Iris who is a rich girl and does ballet.

Finally I've looked up the plot to Fame and found the programme of the production I saw ha! I went to see it in 2000, how long ago was that?!?!?! I must of been like 10! Yea you are right the illiterate guy called Tyrone went with this ballet dancer girl, did she become pregnant in it?! cause for some reason I remember that happening... my memory is still pretty vague about the whole thing! and it seems the song "In L.A" didn't appear in this production...?! She jumped in front of a Train ?!?!?! I was pretty sure it was drugs, I saw a clip on youtube and it suggested that she was on dieting pills... and doesn't she go and try and make it in Hollywood and it all goes bad?!?! Please Help...

Perhaps in a production that you may have seen, Carmen did jump in front of a train ... I don't know. But from all of the shows that I've seen, I was under the impression that she died of a drug overdose.

Anyway, this link might be helpful in regards to the story behind the musical: http://www.famenetwork.com/story.php
