Are romantic story arcs removed for Denzel...

I often wonder. I imagine these scripts are written with a white actor in mind. Denzel is a draw, so they are glad to have him, but worry about alienating viewers with an interracial romantic angle. You end up with this platonic relationship. You see it over and over with Denzel. Just a theory, though I know it was the case for Pelican Brief.

Yeah, I have heard that before. But in Flight his character does have a white girlfriend. I wish it did not matter ?

reply

Nope, thats just good writing not forcing that crap. Jack reacher did the same thing with 2 white characters so take that racist crap elsewhere.

@Erik_Draven

What are you even talking about? And, yeah, it's true that Denzel (and Will Smith and Sam Jackson) hardly do interracial scenes, probably because they were told it would be bad for the box office. Will Smith only recently did a really good film last year in which his character has an interracial relationship (FOCUS) and it was a decent summer box office hit, as well as a good film, too. So,yeah, the OP does have a point there.

Uh,WHAT? It's the 20th century--nothing "disgusting" about interracial relationships----its the norm in some places--whether you like it or not.

reply

until we stop calling them 'interracial' relationships, even in an 'i wonder if this is the case?' kind of way, we will continue to have to wonder if that is the case.

have you tried that crazy wrap thing?! http://erinleighmckenzie.myitworks.com

reply

you're right. How can it be 'interracial' when both people are of the same HUMAN race?

reply

I think the term race denotes as relating to racial characteristics.

It's that man again!!
