that scene made me cry...

Yeah, Sean kept his promise to Sasha.

Yeah, I saw the film again tonight. Ten years ago when I was 16 I didnt share much emotions to it. Today - I got pretty wet-eyes at the ending actually.

Incredibly well acted scene and the music was just plain phenomenal. I especially love how Sean turns to Eve and asks "OK?" and she agrees. They both were so scared but at the same time so filled with love and hope that it was truly a beautiful way to end the film.

As a conclusion it's just so subtle but when you think about it it really shows how well written Sean's character was.

He keeps his promise to Sasha and protects her son, the son of the man who killed his own son and so many of his friends and co-workers.

But Sean doesn't resent Adam because he knows he's innocent, just as Mikey was.

Sean shows how great of a man he is and how he really did regret threatening to take Adam away from Sasha, echoing their scene in which he said "I've said and done some things that have made your life hard, I know". "I'm not the same man you remember and for what it's worth, I'm sorry", and of course "no matter what happens to day, Sean Archer's off your back for good".

She also said that she had left Adam with her family. Adam's next-of-kin just gave him up to a complete stranger?

When the complete stranger happens to be the head of the FBI I'm pretty sure he doesn't have to resort to grabbing the child and running.

Sasha's family could also be criminals, in which case they'd stand no chance of getting legal custody of Adam and the head of the FBI can't be easily topped as a prospective guardian.

Even if they aren't criminals, they'd still need to go through the legal channels and for the above mentioned reasons, they'd surely lose a custody battle.

In short, when the head of the FBI calls up child services and says "this kid is now an orphan and the people he's staying with aren't his legal guardians and haven't had any background checks done" we can safely assume the conversation went as follows "I'm wanting to adopt this boy, how long does it take you to give me the authority, in writing, to take temporary custody over him? one click of a mouse on the PC and the signature on the printout? cool, fax it over to me and I'll take him home today. Thank you".

Maybe Sasha didn't have any other living relatives, you know CPS was never going to give Adam to anyone on Castors side of the family.

Alternate ending: Eve says "Hell no I don't want this kid - whaddya think you can just replace our son??!!"

Not really - that was a great scene.

Extended ending: After Adam goes to his new room, Sean and Eve sit down, flick on the TV and watch the leading news story about a massacre at a local marina.

This was dropped however 'cause it kind of killed the happy good vibe ending.

True story.

That ending, pure shlock, but so good.

Death is the standard breach for a complex prize.

reply

Yes, I spent most of the film practically guffawing at the ridiculous goings on and then I blub at the frankly schlocky ending.

reply

Yeah, it's cool.

"I don't need that scar anymore because I have a new son now so I can forget all about my dead actual biological son"...

It's a beautiful moment.
