Benicio Del Toro - Does he always speak like this?

I don't recall seeing Benicio Del Toro in any other movies. Does he always speak like this? I had to keep the Closed-Caption on so I could understand what he was saying most of the time.

reply

No. It's just an accent for the character.

It's just like how in Cinderella Whoopi Goldberg and Victor Graber have an Asian baby. It happens.

No, it's just Vincent's way of speaking, written in the script. I wish the character didn't have to talk like that though. It does make it hard to understand what he's saying sometimes. Benicio is quite soft-spoken in real life, but not in such a mumbly way like the character is.

reply

Actually about half the time he does....seen several things with him in it, the last one being Sin City.

"It's better to be hated for who you are than be loved for who you aren't."

reply

He's a mumbler.

You do those drugs. You do that alcohol.

reply

The Usual Suspects as well but if you see him interviewed he's as clear as a bell.
He also spoke clearly in The Wolfman.

reply

His mudder's a mumbler.

reply

Definitely part of his character. It gave a James Dean vibe... but way better.

His middle name should be Mumbles. He's mumbled his way through every movie I've ever seen him in. I just thought he was channeling James Dean. But, he is known to be a heavy dope smoker. Maybe that's got something to do with it.

reply

Yeah he does.

I like bunnies

reply

Well his voice is quite deep so that in turns makes him sound more "mumbly"

reply

I really like him but the way he talked in this movie was extremely irritating and a distraction. I didn't think it was realistic or fitting in any way. Took me a while to 'get it over it' enough to focus on the movie.

reply

It sounded like he was imitating Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.
