why did Mozelle accuse Louis of molesting Cisely ??????

ok I'm still a little lost on the letter that Louis wrote to Mozelle?

Mozelle didn't know what happen between Cisely and Louis right? Cisely wanted eve to keep quite about it right? so why did Louis even write Mozelle a letter? I know Mozelle is a psychic but I'm still lost.......please help

I'm thinking either she had a vision about the kiss, probably not the whole story seeing as how it's evidenced throughout the film that her visions sometimes occur in fragments. That's why he wrote her the letter telling her what happened.

I assumed that when she made Eve give her hands and let her look into her mind, she saw what she was thinking. that's why she seemed so shocked and afraid after she let go of her hands.

Hard time understanging your comment.

I thought that Eve pulled away because Mozelle reading her, hence "go ahead and keep your secrets."

It's been years since I saw the film but I'm sure Eve told Mozelle that their father had molested Cisely because Cisely herself had lied to Eve and told her that it was their father who kissed her (rather than the other way around). I imagine Louis wrote the letter because he was so shocked and upset both at what happened between he and Cisely and because of his sister accusing him of abusing his daughter that the things he wanted to say had to be written down since he didn't have the strength to argue.

She made a guess based on some things that she had seen. First, she saw Cisely with the "quiet" gesture in the car, meaning that her and Eve had a secret. Then, Mozelle had that talk with Eve where Eve was so mad at someone that she wanted him dead. Also, she knew that her brother was a womanizer and bad at resisting sexual temptation, which is why in his letter to her he admits that he did have this flaw. She was just putting two and two together.

I think the vision she had when she touched Eve's hands made it obvious. She might have had her suspicions before (the "quiet" scene with Cisely and Eve), but seeing (what turned out to be only part of what happened) that drove it home. She confronted Louis offscreen and he wrote her the letter.

Did she even see anything at all? I always got the impression that when she and Eve are on the porch (after Cisely leaves) and she touches her hands that she can't see anything because it's a secret or an oath. I've got the DVD and I think the chapter before that is called The Oath, and from the way Mozelle was like, "Well, go on and keep secrets, I won't squeeze it out of you!" I took that to mean that she couldn't see anything because Eve had promised to keep it a secret. So I agree with the speculation that she probably just put two and two together.

Although we don't see her vision onscreen, I assumed that she saw something that would made her believe Louis molested Cisely. You could still be right, ke77we. She might've just put the clues together.

If she saw anything, it was what Eve percieved to be the truth from Cicely's telling. Hence Mozelle thinking Louis was guilty of sexually abusing Cicely.

i was thinking that

@mcrae_deluxe and @callmecrazy have it right. She saw what was in Eve's mind when she touched her hands. But Eve only knew what Cicely told her, which wasn't the entire truth, just Cicely's version of it. Eve discovered Louis's version when she read his unmailed letter to Mozelle, which leads her out to confront her sister.

Least that's what I think, having produced the movie. But I can't see into Mozelle's mind.

reply

Well why'd she say "Go on and keep secrets if you want to!" I mean, I'm not saying you're wrong or doubting you or anything, it just seems to me that she didn't see it because she looked very frazzled and frustrated when she let go of Eve. Plus you can hear a little scream like someone was being hurt, and that seemed to fit with Mozelle going "I won't squeeze it out of you!" That also makes me think she didn't see anything.

reply

Good point, but I think she saw enough of Cisely's version to assume Louis abused her and that's why she was so frazzled. She didn't want Eve to know what she saw and told her to "keep secrets".

Moselle did see what Eve was thinking, it was a small slice but enough of a slice that it would shock her. She reacted violently to the imagery and then pretended she saw nothing. It probably scared the heck out of her. I mean that's a pretty serious and disgusting thing. You'd really want to unsee it if you could. She basically reacted with a denial response...

reply

Wow. Talk about people seeing the same scene different ways.

I'm rewatching the movie now. The last time that I saw it was when I was a kid. Regarding the porch scene, I always thought that Mozelle couldn't see anything at all due to Eve's own ability blocking Mozelle's. To me, that's why she seemed so shocked and said "Fine then. Keep your own secrets." Even on the ending monologue, older Eve confirms that she is gifted like her aunt and descendants.

reply

My point exactly...I think Eve thin knew her Dad well. She also knew her Dad didn't cause harm to Cicely. She stated she didnt want her Dad to divorce the family. Cicely lied to her sister because of his mistress,Mattie Monroe.
She feared he would leave...

reply

She definitely does not see anything. That part is certain. If she had, Mozelle would have let it be known.
