Sucked

Oh my, this movie was so bad.

What was it about? Some girl who loved a guy, went and married another guy, then guy #1 decided he loved her?

Er. So that's some people's thing, so I'll leave it at that. Maybe I wouldn't be so dissappointed if I hadn't been expecting more.
What was with the summary? 'Events so horrifying that they threaten to end everything either have ever known'... What horrifying events? The event that your best friend dances with your girl, then he shoots you? The event that Oh my! You do love the girl!

Gawrr. So boring, I almost fell asleep.

I hope it's obvious that I have no clue what was going on, since I asked what it was all about...

I can see being accused of watching Ninja Turtles if I acted like an idiot and went: "OMG DIS MOVE SUKS!onetyone!seven!!'

But I made it very clear I did not understand, and that I found the summary misleading.

Yeah, if anyone doesn't like a movie you make, they obviously have no idea what life is really about and watch Ninja turtles...

Why do some posters find it necessary to insult anybody who does not share their opinions?

I have never watched a Ninja Turtle movie, or any other film that appeared to be aimed at 14-year-olds. I love the music of Tchaikovsky, and I have enjoyed the opera based on Pushkin's epic poem.

I was impressed by the production values of the film, but disappointed overall, because I felt that without the superb music of the opera, the story left me asking, "Is that all there is?"

The plot is about as simple as it could possibly be, but in my opinion contrived. Onegin's passion towards the end of the story seems out of proportion to his earlier coldness; it is as if he has undergone a change of personality.

The same is true of Lensky. He goes completely off his rocker just because Onegin has danced with his betrothed. There is nothing in his earlier behaviour to make this believable, to my mind. Onegin is understandably gobsmacked, but does not try very hard to talk sense into his erstwhile best friend, but instead accepts the challenge to a duel. So I found the lead-up to the duel sequence unconvincing, and the duel itself a little absurd.

When it comes to the point of firing, Onegin could simply have fired into the air or to one side, as many duellists have done in similar circumstances, but instead he shoots Lensky dead — and then is distressed at what he has done. To me none of this is really believable. The characters have been forced to act out of character for the purposes of the storyline.

Of course, in the original Pushkin text, the poet may have developed the characters more, and rendered their behaviour more credible. Keep in mind that I cannot speak or read Russian, so I can't comment on that.

Really? Even when you were...say...14, or maybe 10 or 8? I have watched the previous Ninja Turtles movies, why? Because I was a youngling & enjoyed them at the time. I watched a lot of kiddie stuff as a kid like Power Rangers, Ghost Busters, Thundercats, Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Masked Rider Black, Voltes 5, Voltron, etc etc - I wonder what you watched as a child, it must be gratifying to be so elevated, sophisticated & complex at such a young age.

By Grapthar's Hammer.......what a savings.

I thought Lensky went "off his rocker" because when he accuses Onegin of trying to seduce the girl, he said something like, "If that were my intention it wouldn't have been difficult to do. Your fiance is young and flighty, and very easy."

Though I do agree-- I wondered if there wasn't another way Onegin could have gotten out of the duel.

LOL! All the OP said (in a polite way and with arguments) was that he/she did not like the film and instead of arguing back, or at least, bothering to actually reply to the OP, most posters just wrote: "You obviously didn't get it", "You obviously only watch cartoons" and so on...

It happens all the time on imdb...

Many worthwhile replies on this post...and all seem rather good..well almost all of them. I couldn't help but feel that Vladimir and Olga were a doomed couple if all they thought important was reaching Petersburg and attempting to live a fashionable life, they were both completely out of their depths... Onegin knew that only too well and even made it a point to Vlad, and it was true. But Onegin overlooked the very point he made..Vladimir was a hothead and a bit of a jerk. One could blame Olga for pressing Vlad's hot button, but Vlad surely didn't need to react as a schoolboy. Olga "was" young and very insecure. Then after the duel partially brought on by each lacking to appreciate the other position, Onegin leaves and travels to forget, which backfires on him...Then as he returns to Petersburg and discovers his lost love, and the only person in the movie that wasn't an "affected" personality, he decides that she is good enough for his misplaced vanity.
I think the situation that she is a "good woman" even damns him further as she won't cheat on her husband no matter what, and Onegin now has to recognize all the truths he denied since the very start. .......Just an opinion.

My feelings exactly. I couldn't stand watching this stupid film.
It wasn't as boring as it was tedious. Loathsome story and characters.

🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾
