Ending?

Most assuredly. Oh them clever directors. Their foreshadowing of that was so clumsy though. You immediately wonder when he enters the room: "IS THAT HIS DAUGHTER OR THE EVIL BEAST?" Apparently, he is not quite so bright. As the concept doesn't occur to him for say... THE REST OF THE MOVIE.

Then again, this movie wouldn't work at all if characters were expected to act like intelligent human beings. So at least they're consistent.

I didn't get that impression at all. The idea, in my opinion, seemed rather to be that despite the fact that events did not unfold as the Etruscan priests had intended, they unfolded exactly as they needed to in order for Lucifer to take over Lucy's body, which was intact.
