Weird scenes inside my head

This movie evoked weird scenes inside my head. I thought it was basically a feather-weight comedy spiced up with some fairly well-known names (Chris Farley, Eugene Levy, and that dude from "Friends", what's-his-name... oh yeah, Matthew Perry). It came across as more like a series of comedy sketches from Saturday Night Live rather than a feature length movie. The production values basically sucked, although I do give it credit for being filmed largely in the outdoors of N. California (a place the real Lewis and Clark never visited).

I agree with previous commenters who pointed out that without Chris Farley, the movie would have been a total dud. But, even WITH Chris Farley, the movie left a bit to be desired. That's because Farley seemed to be way off his mark. In several scenes he looked really tired and basically "out of it", like he was struggling to do his lines, or was just going through the motions. Also, his physical appearance was prolley the worst he's ever shown. He looked very overweight and haggard (yes, I know he always struggled with a weight problem, but in this movie he looked downright puffy and bloated). Sad to realize that this was his last movie before he died of drug-related reasons.

Anyway, for me it was a kind of a weird movie experience. I guess it would be like watching Jim Morrison's last public rock concert with the Doors before he died. Weird scenes inside my head. "Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine" (an album by The Doors).

He actually died before the filming of thismovie ended. He was supposed to have a couple more scenes at the end byut they were either changed or done with stock footage and camera tricks and the such. So obviously he looks like his about to die..he was...

I spent about 6 months working on this film and I can assure you that Chris did not die before it was finished. In fact, this movie sat on WB's shelf for a long time before it was released...they simply didn't know how to market it since it was clearly a dud. Anyway, just thought I would clear that up.

Chris Farley's character was a drunk that I always figured was probably not too healthy (frontier health conditions not being the best). It probably fits his character if he doesn't look great.

P.S. Chris Farley died after filming was done.
