Urban Legend?

I rememeber hearing a few years back about a script for a movie that became "Almsost Heroes". Back in the 80s, John Belushi was supposed to play the lead, but he died. Then Sam Kinison was going to do it -- he died. So John Candy was next up, but he died, and Finally Chris Farley took the roll, but he died before it was finished. Is this true, or just an Urban Legend?

The script was called "Atuk", loosely based on the children's book of the same name. Supposedly it was passed through the hands of John Belushi, John Candy, Sam Kinison, and Chris Farley. All of whom were comedians, overweight, and died shortly after choosing not to be a part of the project. I saw on the Sam Kinison E! True Hollywood Story that he originally agreed to play the lead. But, on the first day of filming, he took one look at himself in the Eskimo costume and walked off the set in shame. He was sued for not returning and the movie was scrapped. Current whereabouts of the script are unknown.........

It wasn't based on the children's book "Atuk",it was based on the adult book "The Incomparable Atuk" by Canadian author Mordecai Richler.

offtopic - belushi wasn't so overweight when compared to farley or candy >_<

Also, both Belushi and Chris Farley could do some amazingly physical stuff, like cartwheels and handsprings and such. (Farley did many of his own stunts in his movies). I don't think John Candy ever did any real physical stuff.

It shouldn't surprise anybody that Farley had talents like Belushi. Chris Farley idolized John Belushi and wanted to model his life after Belushi. Belushi did stunts on his own, and had amazing physical prowess for somebody his size. It is also not surprising they died at the same age, in the same type of place (hotel room), of the same thing - both died doing speedballs.

I remember watching Chris' E! Hollywood Story a couple of years ago, and I remember that while they were shooting this film, Chris really sobered up and he always arrived at the set on time. It's too bad he didn't stay in this direction afterwards. :(

Farley didn't die in a hotel room.

Several stories goes around like that. I heard the same thing, sans Kinnison, about a Fatty Arbuckle bio that both Belushi, Candy and Farley wanted to make.

Fatty Arbuckle rumor is true about all... I personally think Farley would have been the best because he needed that serious crossover like Candy achieved in Planes, Trains Automobiles and Uncle Buck. Also Candy did JFK and showed that he could seriously act. Farley was such an underrated actor and really ruled, I think he could have rocked the house with Fatty Arbuckle.

I'm sure no one reads this board any more but if someone does it also happened with confederacy of dunces. Farley, Candy, and Beluchi all were to play the lead role before dying. http://www.slate.com/id/2155500 Did anyone hear the urban ledgend that they had to do some "creative editing" with Chris in this movie because they couldn't do re shoots?
