You have to be really good at French to get this.
The dialogue is whizzy fast.

Actually, I've been watching lots of French movies (mostly comedies) lately to revive my rusty French. Out of all of them, this may have been the easiest to understand yet of the lot -- the actors all speak quite clearly, and I didn't notice any unusual slang. Even during the scene when Pignon calls pretending to be the Belgian producer, the weird accent he put on didn't make it any harder to understand.
Perhaps the only humbug is that if you're a French student and you get the Region 1 widescreen DVD, the subtitles cannot be turned off, so cover the bottom portion of the screen before you start.

I'm also watching French films to brush up on my lingo. While the dialogue in this movie was clearly spoken, it was still pretty fast for me.
For some reason, Brigitte Bardot's French is very easy to understand (even when she's singing); she enunciates perfectly and it sure is fun to watch her lips. She's probably educated me more than 6 years of language courses.
