Yeah, it's so weird because just last week we watched the original movie in French class, and then today I see the trailer advertised.... It doesn't look nearly as funny. I love Steve Carell, but this new movie just seems sort of lame.

regarding the american remake, obviously it won't be as good as the original but american people can't help themselves they have to remake everything. They even thought about remaking oldboy. How could they even do better...
It's the same thing here it's only funny because it's in french.
Some jokes are unique to the movie like "elle est bretonne" joke or the one with 'sa soeur'. Anyway it will be shamefull, can still be enjoyable.

The Park Chan Wook adaptation is one of my favorite movie… but I believe Spike Lee can deliver a good adaptation of OldBoy as well… Let's wait and see
I think they took the general idea and ran in a different direction. I love the original (so many great French films that can't really be brought in as American remakes) but I think American audiences wouldn't want a film with two funny guys in an apartment for the whole film.

Actually I like that Hollywood finds good films for me. I had never heard of this film until they made the stupid version. So, thank you Hollywood!

Secondly, you said it "got decent reviews". On Metacritic, it got 57 from 100 points. I don't think that is very good. Do you? And further, how many French critics reviewed the American version (on Metacritic, not one)? All the critics there are American and they gave it 57 from 100. As I said, perhaps you need to read a little more carefully before you start complaining.
57 is good. 57 is in the yellow zone. It's not in the red zone. 57 is almost in the green zone, which starts a 60. Therefore, 57 is decent, unless you have some unreasonably high standards for the film. Rarely any film on Metacritic reaches in the green zone unless it's a really, really, really good movie. And no, I never said you guys said it was the worst movie ever. I said you guys act like it's the worst movie ever. There's a difference.
share57 may be "good" to you, however Metacritic describes it as "mixed or average reviews". You don't see any difference between "average" and "good"? Secondly, here at Imdb, the users give the French film 7.7 rating and the American film a 6.4 rating. We said the French film was better and the users here obviously agree with us. We neither said it was the worst film ever, nor "acted" like it was the worst film ever. You seem to look at facts and reinterpret them according to your own opinion. I believe that's called "bias."

I was appalled to see "At the Movies" reviewing the American remake. Reviewer #1, who loved it, never even mentioned that it came from a hit French play & film in the 90s. When reviewer #2 mentioned that he enjoyed the original version more, reviewer #1 got all angry, called him a "snob" and wouldn't let him get a word in edgewise. Welcome to America.
But I totally agree with what you said earlier, it's great when Hollywood remakes the foreign classics because we might not have heard of them otherwise. Also the original versions usually get remastered & re-released on DVD & Blu-ray which is what I'm waiting for.
I saw both versions. I think the French version was better but not by much.
shareI saw the American remake last year, and thought it had its funny moments, but wasn't that great (and I absolutely love Paul Rudd). Just watched the original yesterday, and absolutely loved it. I do find it funny that in the original, they never actually make it to the dinner. Again though, French humor is much different than American humor. I thought watching Pierre and François was hilarious, but I can see how most simple-minded Americans would prefer to watch the "slapstick" comedy in the remake.

I think I annoyed a few people in the cinema when,
during the trailer, I yelled (in shock)
"But that was originally a French film, Le Diner de Cons!"

In all honesty, they should've cast Danny Devito. That's all I could think of when I watched this version.
The payoff for slogging through an hour of boring is never worth it.
I agree with you. Think DeVito would have been better casting. No way though did this compare to the original french version which was so much better.
