What a nice little movie!

Last night, I taped this movie when I found out it had been nominated for a few Cesar awards (actually, it won best actor, best supporting actor, and best screenplay Cesars). I watched it tonight. What a treat. It was thoroughly enjoyable. I recommend it. Just for being fun, I gave it nine points out of ten.

This movie was on tv one day and I had nothing better to do, so I thought I'd watch it. It was great! I usually stay away from films in other languages but this one is a gem. It's so funny. The ending is just hilarious. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh. Don't let the subtitles scare you away, or you'll miss a great film.

I agree. It is a funny film. I first saw it on HBO Signature two years ago. When I first read the description, I thought it would be cruel because it was about rich people making fun of idiots. Boy, was I wrong. It wasn't even about that. The didn't even focus much on the dinner. I thought the chemistry was perfect between the two leads. The moral of it is be careful who you call an idiot, especially people you hardly know. Pignon may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he doesn't deserve to be subject to ridicule. He caputures our interest (and our hearts) immediately. The sad thing they are making an american remake. Knowing the U.S. record for bad remakes of French films, I am not looking forward to it.

really? is it being remaked? i am so curious about who will act as Mr Pignon and how the movie's gonna be!
In this movie Pignon surely gives a good taste in it! Cuz if Pignon were not invited to the dinner, nothing funny things wouldn't happen: Pierre's wife would never knew that he had a lover, his lover would never knew that she's called bad behind her back, he wouldn't have been ingvestigated, and so on.
Also his way of talking is too intense and its funny.
If Pingnon is in a real life, I am sure that I can't stop laughing throughout my life, just because he is there.

This movie was a comedy masterpiece, and such a great ending.

I have it on DVD, actually, and one of my buds has a little doo-hickey that lets it work in Zone 1.

Greatest. Ending. Ever. For. A. Comedy. Movie. That. Is.

I love this movie, and I love knowing the French language because of it.

This is a perfect oppurtinity to quote the Merovingian in the Matrix: Reloaded (and I don't give a damn, I like that movie), but I forgot the quote.

yep, I watched it yesterday for a french class...there's already an american version though (sugared-down, of course), called Dogfight, w/ River Phoenix.

reply

We watched in French class yesterday as well, with English subtitles. I thought it was hilarious, but some of the others who couldn't read fast enough to read all the subtitles found it a bit boring because they couldn't understand what was happening.

I have sampled every language, French is my favorite. Fantastic language. Especially to curse with. Nom de dieu de putain de bordel de merde de saloperie de connard d'enculé de ta mère. It's like wiping your arse with silk. I love it.

with such a line, why wouldn't you add Lynch at the end of your nickname?

This movie is a great french movie that can be easily understood even when translated from french (only a couple of french word-plays). And for the brilliant movie it is, that's an opportunity to watch it even if it's in french.
Glad to hear that some non-french people are enjoying this movie as well.

I know they were some speedy subtitles!! I watched it in French today. Good film though... :D

If you liked 'Le diner de Cons' you'll howl over 'Le Placard'(the Closet)....same director and some of the same actors

You should try "Tais toi !" an other movie by Francis Weber. Sometimes, you have Gérard Depardieu as the idiot with Jean Reno. It's hilarious ! Translated to english, the title means "Shut up !"

I also watched this movie and what I can say is that it is truly a great movie. I just loved it! The story is so clever and yet so funny. It's ten out of ten for me.
