I just saw this movie, too, and I really liked it, too. I'm not sure I agree 100% with the top page review that the acting and the direction were unspectacular--maybe that's what makes them pretty good, if admittedly maybe not Oscar-caliber. I actually though that the cinematography was pretty darn good, and the soundtrack is pretty amazing, someone really knew the music of that 1997 time pretty well. And finally, for me, the strength of the movie was the absurdist script that still tries to say something interesting.

Pretty darn good film.

i'm just not so sure about that. i loved arquette in it. but i didn't really believe hunt's character. i thought hunt did a good job though. i also didn't much buy into the whole plot...as interesting as it seemed from the synopsis. and i thought the reversal of roles between the two main characters was a bit forseen, especially after we learn of hunt's character's illness. the metaphors (and therefore the film's title) seemed forced, too...what with the fortune teller and aquarium incident. decent film though. surpirsed to see so little comments about it! i'd much rather watch it again than ever see king's ransom! IFC RULES!!

I saw this movie a few years ago in my Sociology of Deviance class, I'm really glad I went to class that night. It's a great film, I wish they showed it more on IFC. I haven't purchased the DVD yet but I plan to since they actually have it available. More people should see this movie, it really made an impression on me.

What were you discussing in your Sociology of Deviance class about this movie "Drugs", "Euthenasia"

I can't remember the assignment, but we watched the movie with other movies to show that some behavior, which is considered deviant in some contexts, is not deviant in other contexts.

I think I get what you mean.

Yeah its a great movie, too. I watched it when it was only part way through, so when it first came on I just thought it was another druggy stupid movie, but then I watched for an extra five minuttes, then 20 minutes, then an hour, then it was over. I thought it was an awesome movie, from what I saw. Two thumbs up.

Another great performance by David Arquette in an absolutely touching story of love and redemption!!!!

I loved this movie!!! So overlooked and underrated!
The message of the film is very unique and spot-on! Was I the only one laughing my ass off in the scene where suicidal Terry take the pills given to him by Nick then has a change of heart, and while heading to the hospital Nick teases and needles him about all the red lights??
Then Terry gets mad that the pills were vitamins?? LOL!

What about the lotto scene- priceless.
It's completely true that the eyes and view point of a dying man with nothing to lose can completely change the viewpoint of a suicidal, socially isolated man.
They were both desparate and lost but found purpose and heart by the end.

The sound track is pretty good too.

Karma's a bizzle.
