Desperate Plot Holes (*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*)

I LOVE Michael Keaton and could sit and watch him read a dictionary if need be, but this movie was laughably bad.

The story idea was great. Casting, excellent. But who in the world WROTE this thing?

*********

At the start of the movie, Garcia and his cop buddy are breaking into a goverment agency and computer system. Neither one of them is wearing masks or gloves, even encounter a guard, and its never questioned or investigated.

When we first meet Keaton's character he's in solitary, wearing glasses. He's also wearing glasses when you see him on the prison library computer. His vision was so bad he had to wear glasses even when alone but for the rest of the movie, no glasses (even though he's aiming at targets far away and hitting them).

Also on that first meeting in solitary, he's lifting bags of water. What kind of prison gives a dangerous criminal plastic bags? And while we're on the subject, they also allowed him to have shoe laces (no matter he could've hung himself or strangled others with them) and a lighter (you'd think they would've given him matches and even rationed those).

Keaton's character is so dangerous they don't even let him walk around when he's not in his cel and he's strapped to this Hannibal Lechter-type chair -- and yet suddenly they just release him into the general population. Yes, I realize the governor ok'd this, but wouldn't the governor's staff been curious as to how Garcia knew Keaton was a donor match? He couldn't say Keaton volunteered, because how would Keaton know the boy even existed? It's also never explained why they couldn't just appeal to the governor to find a donor by regular means (I'm sure the governor would've loved to find a donor whose participation didn't involve releasing a dangerous criminal).

He purposely dislocates the thumb on his right hand. While on the operating table, he's then able to slip his hand out of the restraints (no explanation as to how his left hand got out). Laughably, when asked how he escaped, the one cop explains, "Oh he dislocated his thumb." HOW would he have KNOWN that?

The ampule that Keaton swallowed to counteract the sedative, I'm assuming was dissovable plastic. Either way, he's swallowed it (even with the string attached) so long before the trip, stomach gasses would've eroded it.

Before they place Keaton on the operating table, it's discussed that they have to take off his cuffs because they need to remove the marrow from his lower back. So WHY did they have him face UP on the table so he could easily escape? Even when they eventually take the marrow later in the movie, he's face down.

On the lam right after escaping from the operating table, despite the dislocated thumb, he's able to have the strength to shimmy down a laundry shoot, use a gun and at one point even has the dexterity to give himself stitches (come ON). And after the stitches? No limping, nothing until the very end.

The cop that tries to be a hero even though Garcia tells him to put the gun down is apparently the only cop on the force who doesn't wear a vest.

Keaton's able to gain entry to a locked steel door from the outside by breaking the window that's no where near the door knob.

Garcia's son has an immune system so weak he could die if infected within a few hours and yet he's in a shoddy plastic tent in a non-sterile room and the doctor pokes her head in to talk to him without wearing a mask.

Another cop (not a nurse) is assigned to watch the son in this weakened state (no scrubs, no mask)and the cop notifies Garcia (and not one of the medical staff) when the child's nose starts bleeding.

Keaton magically has the knowledge how to work the hospital's computer systems -- even moreso than the people who do it for a living.

Harden's character carries a pack of cigarettes with her, even into surgery. Oh ... kayyy.

Keaton is able to break through a brick wall using a fireman's ax.

Garcia's character is able to drive the police car up and over medians and send it airborne, etc. with no seat belt.

No one has any extra ammo but no one runs out of bullets.

And the most laughable at all -- wearing hand cuffs that reach, what, 4 inches at most, and shackled to a bed, he was somehow able to reach all the way down to the deputy's waist band to remove his gun. SURE!

*********

Keaton and Garcia are both such excellent actors. It was almost painful to see them in such a turkey.

pique -- right on with everything you say ..!
There were many goofs and plot holes -- especially that scene in the very beginning was a prelude to the rest of the nonsense.

I might have a possible explanation for one of your items, and maybe one to add if applicable.
There's a nurse in the ER(?) with a syringe of morphine that MK tells her to drop it in his pocket (I think). I don't know how much of a pain killer morphine would be in that situation, but maybe it helps with the no limp thing.
The scene where MK is being brought into the hospital strapped into his "chair", he hisses/snarls at two German Shepherds which sends them heading for cover. Because of his aggressive behavior, my dogs would be pulling on the leash to rip his throat out. Police dogs have better training than mine but (I think), they would at least stand their ground.
