UNDERRATED MASTERPIECE

Sommers best film BY FAR

I agree that it's underrated, Barney, and that it's (probably) Sommers' best film to date. Not sure it's a masterpiece, though - a word that's used much too freely, imo. But I think it's a lot of fun, has some great moments, and is a much better effort than most other films in this genre.

I'd score it maybe a 7/10.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Totally agree.

I'd go Blu-Ray for this film alone.

I think it might be a masterpiece. It's a ridiculously fun movie EVERY time I watch it. And it always pleases crowds. You throw this baby in and one by one people well get sucked in and finish it.

Absolutely underrated! Not by me though ;)

Masterpiece is a bit strong but this is a hidden little gem.

Amen brothers and sisters! Great movie, very underrated.

Double Feature:

Deep Rising

then

Jurassic Park

doesn't the ending make you wanna watch JP?
One of the "coolest" endings ever.
It was so badass it just made me go "holy crap" each time.
I watched this movie at least 20x in my youth, but somehow I just can't get to watch it again. I feat it would bore me. I actually don't remember anything but the ending and all of the crew member being horribly killed.
Maybe memory just serves better, oh and the jet bike of course!

OP -

Yeah. You right.
It is quite wonderful in a silly way.
And it is underrated.

I don't think a masterpiece has to be a lofty or serious piece of art to be a masterpiece.
Don't believe me- ask the OED.
It describes a masterpieces as a 'work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship'.

By that definition, DR is a little ol' masterpiece.
Besides, monster movies are a legitimate genre.
As if they need to be legitimized.

Just watch the stuff & enjoy!

I wouldn't say it's his best but it's an incredibly fun movie and one of my guilty pleasures that I occasionally like to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon. I especially love to play it for friends who've never seen it before. It never fails to disappoint. Always a home run.

glad to see the IMdB score has improved lately to a 6/10, but it is still underrated imho.

This is 1990s pure action monster fun, how can you dislike this?
