why such a low score??

I read the book and I still think this is a great movie! It is made for tv, so to hold it to such a high standard is not fair. It was very well acted and very sad, of course.

I've seen better, I've seen worse. It's basically a B movie that's aided by Chris McDonald's believable performance (most people seem to like Nathaniel Parker too). I was mostly interested because of the story itself, although apparently they took liberties in that regard.

I never spent so much time watching a movie and rooting for various a-holes to die! Peter Horton of course leads the list, but there's the taiwanese or japanese old lady, then the socialite (she deserved to be booted off the summit, what a waste of oxygen.) There are maybe two people I gave a rat's azz about, but for the most part, people this useless and with too much money to waste, really do the world a favor by absenting themselves from it.

Oh yeah, and the movie couldn't have sucked more. The selfish, stupid, self-centered characters gave you absolutely no reason to care if they made it (or like me, cheering when they did bite it!)

Sounds like you got some enjoyment out of it, then, anyway.

I'm sorry, I completely agree with the low score. I'm a climber myself and loved the book, but the dialog and the acting is just plain bad. Too many cliches, only the nature shots were up to par. The voice-over really spoiled it for me, it's bombastic (in that sense it went well with the completely over the top score)and unnecessary. Also they put superfluous and stereo-typed dramatizations in the film that were not in the book - as if the story by itself isn't dramatic enough! I was very disappointed, gave it 4 out of 10.

I am watching this movie now. It is kinda bad. Low quality, unbelievable script and bad acting in general. I was pleased though to see Richard Jenkins in it from "The Visitor". The music is bad too.

A few parts of it are totally unrealistic, like the part where Scott Fisher has to help some clueless inexperienced climber put his snow spikes on right (the man attempted to put them on upside down). Now there are alot of stupid people that have no business hiking Everest, on the mountain but I doubt someone who cannot even put snow boots on would be one of them.

The point is made early on in the movie-about the commercialization of Everest. And these companies that will sell a trekking permit to ANYONE willing to pay the steep fee (up to 65K), experienced hiker or not, but this movie loses focus soon after that.

the part about the guy not knowing how to put his crampons on was real. the guy slid down the mountain, fell into a crevasse, got rescued and then died a few hours later from internal injuries. they had to lower his body down the mountain. this happened before the big storm struck. it wasnt on fischers team, though. it was a chinese guy from the taiwanese team. and i dont think it was actually the guy that didnt know how to put his crampons on. it may have been a different guy. but it did happen to someone that season on everest.....
