New Film 2015

Into Thin Air will be Everest (2015)
Good cast, let's see if we can have a better version this time.

I'm sure it will be better. This was a TV movie and there are certain budgetary realities with TV movies. Settings, direction, acting and what you can afford to get out of the actors (multiple takes and the best actors cost money).

It had that certain 'made for TV' hamminess to it at some points but I quite enjoyed it.

Just watched it, then started reading a lot about the actual incident. I was impressed at how faithful to the various Wikipedia articles about this tragedy and the people involved the film is.

The new film ((Everest 2015) is not a remake of Into Thin Air - it's not based on Krakauer's book. It's based on Beck Weather's book, Left for Dead and on an article entitled "The Death" Zone from Men's Journal.

For that reason, it's short on its depiction of Scott Fischer and his role (because Beck, being on the other team, wasn't privy to a lot of that) and on the Mountain Madness team in general. Beck's book is his own story, a very interesting read but it's not as comprehensive an overview as Into Thin Air (book); even this film, though sadly it could have been much better, provides a wider scope than does the new film.
