Certainly agree.
While I am late to this thread, I have to scratch my head on this one. The Dancer Upstairs was a good movie and is much better than the films being made today. But Robocop is classic Sci-Fi, directed impeccably by Irvin Kershner in a way that films are never executed today. I'm not sure what anyone is smoking praising The Dancer Upstairs over Robocop. While the former is certainly well-made and impressively executed, Robocop is prettymuch flawless in every way, on every level.
Moreover, this film was not only good, but it also opened up my eyes and shed light on the political occurrences in a South American country that was otherwise unknown to me. I was even inspired to look up Quechua and learned about that language as well. However, I wouldn't quite rank this film up there with the likes of an 80s classic; the two are hardly comparable anyway. Robocop is better compared to something like The Fly or Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Dancer Upstairs is better compared to something like Ghandi or Cry Freedom. All six of these films are great, but I would rank The Dancer Upstairs at the bottom of the list.
I'm not a control freak, I just like things my way
