The statue by Wenceslas

On the first viewing of the movie, I assumed that Wenceslas squandered his time and didn't finish the statue. On the second viewing, I heard him describing the statue as the solider bursting out of the marble, and then I wondered if the statue was meant to appear half finished -- as if the soldier could not be contained by the marble and was bursting free. So, was the statue not finished, or was the end result what he intended?

I think it's a combination of the two. The fact is he was lazy, and not much of an artist, but he was also egotistical and in his mind the effects of his laziness were brilliant.

Yeah.
