There wouldnt be no problem if he killed those boys pointing at him

It looked like a gun, so it would be justified, this is one of my most favorite films, but after many years i started thinking about this.

He was driving while drunk, his tire blew out, he fired half of a magazine into them. On paper this doesn't look like he'd get away with anything.

I was a little confused about this bit - were the teens killed by the other corrupt cops when they arrived on the scene?

I can't see how Bababitch could have put the bullets into them during the chase (unless he got out after the crash and shot them point blank.

Real life bullets go through cars easily

Yeah but the title of this thread is "There wouldn't be no problem if he killed those boys pointing at him", indicating he (Babitch) didn't kill them.

Or is it the double negative in the sentence which is confusing me?!

reply

He meant IN REAL LIFE there wouldn't be no problem if he killed those boys. So yes it's the double negative. But he's also wrong because Superboy was drinking and driving, and his tire popped, a lot of investigators would look at him to be responsible because of his impaired state when shooting 2 unarmed black teens who had a steering wheel lock, that he arguably could have discerned wasn't an actual gun if he weren't drunk.

LOL! Thanks for clarifying that, I think my initial thought after watching this was about this scene so it was playing on my mind. If you see during the chase he fires into the side of the car and it looks like nothing hits. But the aftermath shows the teens with gunshot wounds in their chest.

Nevertheless, I agree with you about the original post, very very unlikely that in real life he would've got away with this.

I really enjoy the scene for how realistic it is, in real life bullets hit the vehicle like that and they go through, and it's very anticlimatic in how sudden it all is. I loved how in normal movie rules those bullets wouldn't have made it through (some movies have a tendency to use the rule if they can't see you, the bullet can't hit you) while in this one, all of his bullets riddle and kill them, and they spin out, despite it looking unstylized and completely realistic

Although I still maintain it looked like they were both shot from the front on rather than the side, I agree it was well done secene up to this point. I thought everything leading up to it was excellent - the pacing with a sense of foreboding danger from the moment Babitch left the bar was spot on.

The way it built up this tension reminded me of the bus scene in the Sean Penn film, The Interpreter.

He was a policeman.

I don't even see why anybody thought he'd be in trouble for anything. The police are seldom held accountable for murdering unarmed men, women and children.

They get all butthurt when anybody suggests that they are crappy at their jobs, but that's not the same thing as being held responsible for gross abuses of power.

In this case, there are mitigating circumstances. To simply say he murdered unarmed men doesn't really tell the story.

He was minding his own business, the other two instigated the incident. They sideswiped his vehicle at a fairly high rate of speed and appeared to be very aggressive and threatening. He identified himself as an officer, showing his badge. Why would an innocent percent point a steering wheel lock at a cop you just rammed in a manner that would simulate a shotgun? That's how it was filmed. When he heard the tire blow, (if you've ever heard one) it can sound like a gunshot.

I think the circumstances show that while he had been drinking (we aren't told what his blood alcohol level was) the two shooting "victims" did plenty to provoke the officer's actions. Of course no honest cop, and we are told he is certainly that (he is a hero, he doesn't want evidence planted) wants to hurt an innocent person, even accidentally.
