Stallone went full retard?

Stallone just seemed way too dumb in this. I mean holy crap it's supposed to be his hearing that held him back, not his brain. It's about a cop doing the right thing but it kinda ends up feeling like it's about how even an idiot can be a hero and make a difference. Anyway, other than that annoying "superboy", Stallone's character felt like the weakest link in this. The small town sheriff felt less than small, he felt inept.

I seem to be in the minority, but I do agree with the OP here. This was a huge all-star cast that could've had so much great interaction, but much of Sly's screentime was limited to long dopey stares. I didn't care for the way he played it. I get that he was handicapped and felt shunned by the "big city" boys, but as a 10-year sheriff, you'd think he'd grow a spine.

That was the point. If he had it together that well they never would have made him sheriff. They wanted someone who seemed (and pretty much was) incompetent so they could get away with whatever they wanted. Freddy was simple, looked up to them and never got in the way. He was the perfect puppet. Until things got so blatant that even he could put it together.

I think he was just that apathetic he knew what was going on but didn't want to shake things up because he knew it could get him killed.
