Does anyone believe in aliens?

Are we the only beings in space? I think other beings are out there. Space is infinite.

I have no idea, but I think the odds of there being just one single planet of all the billions and billions out there that has life on it don't make much sense.

But I do have some issues.

First is the assumption that many seem to have about aliens, is that they must be more highly advanced than us humans. But what's to say that they're not the equivalent of homo erectus (you know, with the ridiculous assumption that they're humanoid)? Maybe the reason why we haven't heard anything from them is because they're still trying to figure out fire without losing their *beep*

The second is our definition of life, that it has to be carbon based and requires water and sunlight to sustain itself. Since that's how it works on our planet and system, that's our criteria when looking at other planets and systems. But who the hell knows? It might be like Hume's swans?

I think 'believe in' is the wrong way of phrasing it. Makes it sounds like something religious or supernatural (like ghosts). I believe it's likely other life exists out there somewhere. I'm doubtful there's a lot of intelligent life out there, however. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if humans are the first species to reach this level of intelligence in the entire universe. It would certainly square with what we observe about the universe.

Of course there is other life in the universe, is it anything like us, probably not.

It's damned near a sure thing that there's life elsewhere. It's highly likely there's intelligent life. But have they visited Earth? Nope.

My opinion is:

If there is no God - 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance there is life elsewhere in the universe.

If there is a God - 100% chance there is life elsewhere in the universe.

Yes, it must be, what kind of life? that is another thing....
if not...it would be an immense waste of space

reply

Yeah sure, but do the aliens believe in us?

reply

Maybe we’re the aliens.

No one knows. No one can say "There definite is life out there." The vastness of space does not make it any more or less likely. Life on our planet from start to now is the tiniest sliver in the timeline of the universe. The distance between potentially habitable systems (by any stretch of "life" as we know it) is so far that it would take an amount of time nearly equal to the time it takes for life to emerge, evolve, and die off completely to get there. So even if there is/was life, we would not likely ever know. The range of time is a higher hurdle than the distance.

No one ever considers the possibility that there might be zero life at all out there. Believing that takes the same kind of faith.
