conspiracy show like this

I can't recall if it was tv or a movie, but it had a "geeky" man who lived with his mother. He believed a conspiracy (he looks a lot like actor Nate Mooney). Later we find out he sort of has a crush on the sane male person he is trying to convince. His mother gets murdered as a message for him to back off.
