I don't know why..but I love this movie. I think Garland is pretty hilarious and Cyrus is a pretty great villain. Unfortunately, I have a really hard time dealing with Poe's horrible accent. I wish that the makers of the film had just made him some Midwesterner from Ohio or Indiana. I cringe every time I hear him speak - the worst offense being "she's my hummingbird". Aargh!!! I've been to the south a number of times and have never heard anyone sound like this. Mr. Cage should never be allowed to use any kind of accent in his films.
Guessing you are from Alabama and don't think you sound anything like him. That's usually how it works, but being from the south myself, he sounds pretty accurate :)

I agree, I don't know if it's just the accent though, it's pretty much his entire performance. The accent is AWFUL, nobody sounds like that from anywhere except Nicky Coppola phoning it in. If he was not in this movie, and someone else in his place, it would certainly improve things. Malkatraz and Steve Buscemi on the other hand are good enough to more than make up for it in my opinion.
Sometimes Cage is terrible beyond belief and other times he's so great you don't dare look away. Perhaps he needs serious coddling by a skilled director(s)
Movies he is great in:
Raising Arizona Wild at Heart Leaving Las Vegas Adaptation
No lad who has liberty for the first time, and twenty guineas in his pocket, is very sad, and Barry rode towards Dublin thinking not so much of the kind mother left alone, and of the home behind him, but of tomorrow, and all the wonders it would bring.
I love him in those same movies. He should stick to the quirky character. Trying to be hot is in my opinion not his forte. He also needs to stop taking every job offered. He should stick to what really works for him. He could be sexy without being offered overtly sexy roles. I thought he was okay in The Frozen Ground. I don't hate him, I sometimes love him. He was also great in Moonstruck.
