You don't get diabetes from eating pink coconut snowballs. Baby O appeared to be a Type-1 Diabetic and although there is no known cause of the disease it likely isn't pink coconut snowballs.

Eating too much sugar can bring on diabetes down the road which is usually type 2. He was a type 1, and they obsessed with sugary snacks because they have to regulate how much they take in.

I know people with Type 2, which is quite common, and they certainly don't have the deal with insulin injection that he has. Perhaps he does as he is Type 1, but I have heard it said that this film gives a misleading picture of diabetes anyway.
