Seems it's loved by foreigners only

As you might heard already, Kusturica's later movies are not amongst popular in his native country. I fall into this category, too... Let's see: Fridge falls into river, golden Gypsy teeth, geese and cocaine, a man sits in a cake, a man hits the tree with his head... This movie is atrociously unfunny and the only reason for its popularity is because most foreigners like to see "crazy Balkan lifestyle", filled with horrible Bregovic's music and unfunny gags. Also, the most people fall into 'average intellect category' which is its main fanbase. This way, Kusturica found the widest span of target audience that would like his movie.
He's talented as a director, I won't argue about that. But the style of humour on display here is just plain awful. It doesn't work as a comedy because it's not funny. Sijan's and Markovic's movies are funny, not Kusturica's.
