Why do so many like this movie??!

Can someone tell me what the big deal about this movie is? Why do you like it? To me it is simply a farce (hope I spelled it right). The acting is horrible and the screenplay so full of holes they could cover entire Serbia. And furthermore, they speak in BULGARIAN. What was the point with all this Kusturica, you deranged nationalist freak?! You've obviously lost your mind and director's vision a long time ago. Underground was silly, but this movie really takes the cake. Arizona Dream was the last of his projects that could be called a movie. This guy is so full of crap.

It's very funny for one thing. And the acting does not seem so bad to me. Especially the grandfather and Grga were great.
I liked the details in this movie - the singer that pulled the nail with her wast behind, the geese (and the wiping), the little kid that slaps a man on his head in a bar...so many funny details along with the main plot.
The whole scenery is colourful and seems fun inspite the obvious dirt and probably smell. I think Kusturica did a good job.
Don't take it in a political/nationalistic way, watch it as a comedy.

And they speak gipsy language as far as i know - it certanly does not resemble bulgarian from what i can remember.

Even as a comedy its poor and not funny at all. I dont understand all you who laugh at it. And they DO speak in Bulgarian for the most part. Listen closely and you'll find out. Most of the main characters arent gypsies.

Where are you from ? I am a bulgarian and the only people speaking in bulgarian is the custom officer who gets shot. All other actors speak either serbian or some gipsy language. If you are so sure they speak in bulgarian write for me the phrases you think are in bulgarian and post them here. Actually I understand very little from this movie without the subtitles on. Serbian sounds close to bulgarian but bulgarians understand russian much more easily than serbian.

I am from Bosnia. I know that we all (Bosnians,Serbians,Croatians, Montenegrins and especially Macedonians) understand Bulgarian better than Russian, so how can it be the opposite with you people?? I know that I couldnt understand all of the dialogue in this film, so it must have been either in Bulgarian or that south Serbian dialect. Thats possible as well. Gypsy was also used, but not that much.

Well. I don't know I have learned russian back in school, so may be that's the reason, on the other hand I haven't spoke to any serbs, bosnians or whatever. I spoke to a croatian once and we could actually understand each other... But this movie is definitely not in bulgarian. As I said the only lines in bulgarian are the lines of the customs officer.
By the way I usually don't understnad everything in russian - about 50% only, so I have had troubles with most russian movies. "Oligarkh" on the other hand was extremely easy to understand even without subtitles. "9ta rota" too... I've spoke to many russians and as it is relatively easy to understand them they can't understand my bulgarian.

Then it must be in the so-called Vranje dialect. That dialect is not easy to understand even for other Serbians that live north of Vranje.

*beep* Serbian is so much more easy to understand then Russian.
When I listen to Russian I get about 10% of the talking. With Serbian i get atleast 30% of what they are saying.

No you're right, that movie you made with excellent acting, amazing paralleling storylines, deep plot, a satisfying conclusion, and a perfect blend of all that makes a great film great was much better. When do you start filming your next movie jackass?

Judging from the OP's avatar, I'm going to guess that he doesn't like a lot of the things I like; and that this movie is just one item on a vast checklist of things he hates.

Nope, definitely not Bulgarian. Mostly gipsy dialect of Serbian (you can hear some Hindi words that were left in gypsy from the centuries; I recently watched it with an Indian friend of mine and she got a few sentences)
