This or Helter Skelter...

I'm looking on getting a movie about The Manson Family and what not, which one is better, this or Helter Skelter?

HELTER SKELTER (1976) with Steve Railsback, not the 2004 version.

I'm sorry but The Manson Family is far better than Helter Skelter 2004. that version was a bunch of crap. The original Helter Skelter was better.

Agreed.

totally depends on your perspective. the first helter skelter because it was first. but then watch the manson family. there's a ton of other manson related films out there...ALL of them are silly and inaccurate. but a lot of them are very entertaining and even thought provoking.

The original TV movie made it look like it was all Manson's doing. At least this put some blame on the people who actually did the shooting and the stabbing. The orginal H.K. made it like the were all brainwashed. If they never met Manson they'd be senators and business men now?? Don't know about that...

The Manson Family is much better.

I just love film.

Helter Skelter('78) is strictly told from the police investigation and Vincent Buglosy ( DA) - If you want to be very informed then try this= there is also 2004 version ( in which Vincent produced) it stays pretty neutral- you might want to try this verson first--to gi e you an idea about how things came to be how they were.

This one is the best for me. It doesn't shy away from the murders(and nor should it). You should be traumatized and repelled by Manson & his followers. The original Helter Skelter made it seem like it was ALL Manson which is total B.S if you know the case. The 2004 version adds a bit more depth in my opinion and gives better insight. But Van Bebber's MANSON FAMILY is THE film for me.

It's exploitative, horrific & disturbing. But...why shouldn't it be?? this wasn't a "wacky cult" it was something much worse.

I wish there was a way we could combine this movie and Helter Skelter (1976). Both films are equally good, just in different ways. Helter Skelter focuses mostly on the investigation and the trial and this film is more about what life was like for "The Family" and the murders themselves. I think this could almost be seen as a prequel to Helter Skelter.
