Forget the morons here - this movie is great

I was lucky enough to see this at the London Frightfest 2003 and loved it. It is a challenging, lurid, sickening re-telling of the Manson murders with a more-than-interesting slant on the story.

Ignore the morons slagging this film here. I wouldn't trust them to write their own names.

The Manson Family is an important and gripping underground film made by an adept and ever-improving film-maker. It is not meant to be factually accurate to the letter. It is not meant to be a slick piece of entertainment. It is meant to provoke both emotion and thought and to those ends it works extremely well.

Charles Manson is a prophet...no movie can do him justice, i just bought it so i dunno what it's like but i have all his albums and tons of other stuff, he is a prophet, u do not judge charlie, just judge urself, ur eyes are just mirrors deflecting ur sins onto him, the one true Messiah

fessedupmuck, where did you buy it? Online?

Always remember, Amazon.com has everything! :-)

It is sad to think that anyone in the world thinks of Charles Manson as anything but an inhuman monster. That 35 years later he could be influencing anyone is abhorrent. Even those that followed him and killed for him have denounced him. I have not seen this movie. I came onto this board to get others opinions on it. After reading that there are people out there that believe that Charlie is a prophet, I am truly frightened. He had at least seven people brutally butchered. That alone makes him a monster. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for what he did. Find pictures on the net of the murder scenes at the TATE and LABIANCA residences. There is nothing prophetic or "cool" about it. Manson had no ordeal. He should have been put to death for his crimes. He justed lucked out to still be alive today.

Keep posting in your ridiculous pseudo-gangsta style though...cheers me up no end.

Priceless.

snoopalicious proves, beyond all doubt, that abusive morons (nee, oxygen thieves) populate message boards like this. And it comes as no surprise you found the film "studenty" - obviously never having been one yourself. Typical attack from an illiterate know-nothing. snoop, go back to watching your Van Damme films and don't bother the world with your illiterate comments ever again.

Has anyone seen the Special Features on the Special Edition DVD?
Van Bebber Family or In the Belly of the Beast?
Are they worthwhile?

reply

The "Van Bebber Family" is a history of the making of the film, with lots of fairly interesting insights into the varied turmoils. Van Bebber (who I q&a'd at the Cinemuerte festival in Vancouver about this last year) is a coarsely articulate, straight-shooting guy with size 12 testicles, and he doesn't offer a single apology or retraction for anything in the film; he has interesting things to say about why he downplays Sharon Tate's murder and why the violence is as brutal as it is, and in the end its tough not to respect him and his film. I didn't watch IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST, which is footage of the filmmakers at a festival; there's also a Manson interview on the 2nd disc, tho', with quick clips of Manson ranting to Nikolas Shreck. (It's cut up into quick sound bites and presented out of sequence, taken from Shreck's CHARLES MANSON SUPERSTAR film; the choppiness makes Manson seem even less coherent than he might normally).

Re: all the fuss, I agree, this is a film that will divide serious film buffs -- people who aren't above engaging intellectually with pulp product -- from your average video-renting, passively consuming TV baby. Put it this way: if you own a single Arnold Schwarzenegger film in your DVD library (with the obvious possible exceptions of THE LONG GOODBYE, STAY HUNGRY, or even TOTAL RECALL, since it's a Verhoeven -- the only excuse) you might as well just pass on THE MANSON FAMILY.

When a contributor to this site actually recalls Schwarzenegger's film debut displaying his Mr.Universe physique in Roger Altman's under-appreciated neo-noir film take the commentary seriously.

To the guy that said there's only one killing in this movie, i think you must have the wrong film.
This one is a veritable gore fest towards the end.
Exploitation cinema at it's best.

cool little effects but the structure and subplot stank to high heaven-if you are in love with the microscopic close ups ala Requiem For A Dream with all that gimmicky cross cutting and adore the jump cut you'll thinks its *beep*

I totally agree with you, I thought this was an excellent movie, and a MUST HAVE for my DVD collection.

I love this movie! The story of Charlie should be raw and gritty! This and the new Manson movie with Ryan Kiser as Manson are what they should be not Aquarius!
