The Vibe

The scene where Dennis Denuto makes his `vibe' argument is one of my favourites. It's so well written and acted.

I'm an Australian lawyer and can say that - over 15 years after the film was released - when a barrister is struggling with a weak argument, Judges are still heard to say: "Are you saying it's `the vibe' Mr Smith?"

Still gets a laugh every time.

Incidentally, `the vibe' is not as silly as it sounds. There is no specific provision in the Constitution protecting the right to free speech, however, the High Court found such a right based essentially on `the vibe' of the Constitution. Doubtless, the barristers in that case did a better job of arguing the point than Dennis Denuto.

Thanks Mandyjam.

I remember our debate over on the `Love Actually' board regarding whether Harry (Alan Rickman) did or did not sleep with Mia in exchange for the necklace. Good robust debate without disrespect or rancour.

There's another scene from `The Castle' which continues to enjoy life.

Not long ago, I was in the Court of Appeal with some young clients from an insurance company. They had been to the District Court before, but not the Court of Appeal and were excited by the experience. The Hearing had been going for a short time when I felt a tug on my jacket sleeve and, turning around, found a note being thrust towards me. I am a Solicitor, not a Barrister, so I thought the note would contain some wise point my clients wanted me to pass onto Counsel. However, when I opened the note the words `Glass of Water?' appeared!!!!

I had to leave the Courtroom for a few minutes in order to supress the laughter gurgling up from my stomach!!!! It was hilarious!

What section has been breached?
Section? What section? There is no one section it's just... the vibe of the thing.

I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific.
Oh yeah sure. I was just starting general and then I was getting more specific with it.

I just watched this movie two nights ago on Netflix and I laughed for really long time at this scene!
I truly giggled for about five minutes!
This was a great movie because it was super funny, b. it had heart. And three it was a treat. The dad in the movie was fantastic.
I liked how when his son dug a hole the dad was all like, "that's a good hole son."

Best movie I have seen in a long time.

I won't have it Speranza9, better than Dennis....no way. I can only wonder what he was like with the conveyancing issues. Probably as masterful as he wad with the photocopier. Yeah, Denis.
