What is the film Victor watches?

What is the film Victor is watching round Elena's apartment in the early scene where she is knocked out, you know the one with the manikin on fire.

He is watching The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de La Cruz. It is directed by Luis Bunuel. It is about a guy who thinks he has the power to commit crimes just by thinking about them. It's really funny.

Luis Bunuel's, Ensayo de un Crimen with the czech-mexican actress Miroslava Stern see movie Miroslava directed by Alejandro Pelayo. On that film they make a re-creation of the original film when Ernesto Alonso is dragging the doll and burns it. That's where he is 'rehearsing the crime'. Very popular on mexican TV on those sunday afternoons

Yeah, the movie that Víctor is watching is one of the best films by Buñuel. Undoubtedly the best movie in the respective filmographies of both, Ernesto Alonso and Miroslava.
An obscure fact about the movie: Miroslava commited suicide once the film was complete. According to the late Ernesto Alonso, Miroslava blamed Buñuel because he was delaying her suicide by not finishing the film on time!
However "Ensayo de un crimen" remains practically unknown outside of Latin-America and Spain.
Its literal translation to english is "Rehearsal of a crime". That's a much better title than "The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz". But you know, some smart ass changed the title.

BTW somebody mentioned that this is a funny movie. I am not completely agree, while it contains a healthy dose of dark humour (like in most films directed by Buñuel), IMO "Ensayo de un crimen" is basically a thriller. A thriller "a la Buñuel", though.

Excellent movie. Watch it if you can.

David Traversa. My comment comes a bit late to yours, but I just saw "Carne trémula" today.
It's about Miroslava suicide, what you say about her waiting for the film to be finish to go and kill herself is a scream, sheer black humor to say the least.

According to chronicles of the time, she committed suicide for the Spanish torero Dominguín (the father of Luis Bosé) when he left her (when learning about the motive for her suicide Ava Gardner said: "That's going too far for ANY man").

So, it's a bit difficult to believe that if that was the motive, her emotional condition would have allowed her to be so cool as to seat and wait for a lousy movie to be finished in order to kill herself.
