Some thoughts

I love how in the movie Buffalo '66, Christina Ricci's character just goes along with whatever like she's some kind of alien anthropologist. I love her character in the film. The script reminds me of Woody Allen, there's more dialog spoken with the eyes than with the mouth. The camera work and directing are fantastic, very Bergman.

There is so much to like about this movie.

Camerawork
Directing
Script
Acting
Mood
Dialog
Realism of characters
Music

It's a great movie.

Very well stated, yes there is much, much more going on than the dialogue.

The car scene outside Billy's home is awesome. It's like 2 minutes of Billy talking off camera, while the camera is focused on Layla the whole time. She only says 1 word when he asks her name, "Layla", and when he says "That's no good, your name is Wendy" her expression is hilarious.

Miserable 2 hours.
