Billy was raped in prison or molested

Given that Billy just got out of prison for 5 years and that scene with the gay guy looking at his penis, in which Billy really over reacts, I think it is pretty evident he had a sexually traumatic event occur.

He does not like Ricci kissing him, nor does he like to share the bath tub, and when they were in bed he curls up in the fetal position. I could go on and on.

But I posit that he is either gay, or was tampered with before.

Any thoughts?

I believe that it is likely he had issues in prison.
It could have been that he cannot manage emotions or attach due to his upbringing (potentially even physical abuse there) but there is a shower scene in the prison where he is crying (although it doesnt necessarily suggest anything untoward) and then the way he reacts to the guy in the toilet makes me think you are right

He never had a girlfriend in his life... His only friend was Goon. I also think a lot of it comes from not being loved by his parents (who he says are just like his parents), so he doesn't know intimacy. In real life, he doesn't care for gay people, so why not put your feelings on film?

Good insights. Intimacy issues + stressful day + PTSD from prison rape, could all lead to physically assaulting that fruit in the toilets. I think pre-prison Billy would have been uncomfortable in the same situation but the reaction probably wouldn't have been so violent.

Hmmm...I never thought about it like that. Good observation.

Agree he was traumatized.

I wouldn't say he over reacted to the fag in the bathroom creeping on him, I'd say it was the appropriate response. His behavior around Layla was because he liked her but he was a broken man who had been raised by two complete wastes of human skin, and thus he developed a shell to hide in and was afraid to show her affection. He obviously wasn't a homo since he had a crush on the girl in school from a young age and eventually realized he would find happiness with Layla. There's nothing to indicate he was raped in prison.

He goes nuts when touched by a woman he might love, and refuses to undress in front of her in the bathtub scene. In the beginning, there are the superimposed mini-video layered of him showering in prison.

But that punk at the bathroom stall was given a warning. He should have pissed on him, although the recipient might have liked it.
