Seriously Underrated

I felt like this movie was incredibly underrated. It was extremely personal, well-acted, raw, and true to life. There's no cliched cheesy happy ending where everything is all roses and peaches, but at the same time there's no stereotypical clean break-up where they just part separate ways and then live happily ever after, APART. No, this movie showed the real deal. The messiness of relationships, and how feelings can take control, and most of all how breaking up is hard to do.

So honestly I have lost all faith in the imdb rating system. If a movie like this is under appreciated I have to say that it just goes to show that people would rather see things the way that they want them to be rather than how they are.

This movie wasn't trying to appeal to anyone. Someone could argue, "Well, not all relationships are like that and this shows a stereotype" and you know maybe you're RIGHT but this movie isn't about ALL RELATIONSHIPS it is the story of MONICA and STEVE specifically. It's like a slice out of the lives of two people who may/may not be in love. I feel like if people would just take it at face value like that and not read overly deeply into it, that they'd be able to understand what it was all about. Movies like this are actually very rare and I am so impressed that it was ever even made.

You also get the feeling that there is a ton of ad lib, for example when Monica is telling Steve, "If you were in Australia right now and you asked me to marry you I'd say yes" that seemed kinda funny because Russell Crowe really is Australian. I think this was one of those movies where they had the script but they gave the actress and actor a ton of leeway and you can see how Hayek and Crowe totally improvised in situations, so their performances- to me at least- seemed way more natural than your run of the mill romance movie.

Maybe I am seriously losing my mind but I am IN LOVE with this movie and I cannot understand how someone couldn't instantly love it when they see it. It doesn't hurt that it is also HILARIOUS.
