When was a snuff movie mentioned?

So Brando goes off on one about life and death and how letting others see your death is this and that etc, honestly I didn't get what he was blathering on about but I'm pretty sure he never mentioned anything about a snuff movie. I got that he wanted to see Depp die in some way but then still didn't really get it and wondered if I had got it. I thought possibly Depp had been hired to kill somebody. I was so unsure as to what the film was actually about that after an hour I just read the back of the DVD box (which I never normally do as they can reveal plot twists and spoil a films momentum), only then did I fully understand that Brando had 'bought' Depp's life.

Anyway, I didn't know Depp was to die in a snuff movie until I came on IMDb and read it, I just thought they were killing him for some sort of fun or sport or something. Did I just completely mong it when watching this film or was it just the boring badly scripted mess I ended up thinking it was?

Raphael:
>>I said I'll be there.

Larry:
>>Well, that's good. 'Cos unless you plan on putting that pretty little Rita and kids of yours... on a plane to f#cking Bora Bora. Not to mention, old gimp dad and, whoever else you may care about out here in this s#ithole. I'm gonna find 'em. Then I'm gonna kill 'em. And then I'm gonna f#ck 'em. And then I'm gonna eat 'em. Come on Kercheese, one more little old scar ain't gonna make a difference. See you in the movies, Tonto.

So one throwaway line of dialouge in which the word "movie" is said is all the evidence that Rachael was to be in a snuff movie?

reply

Of course not.

So would you care to provide an example of where it was actually made clear?

I didnĀ“t think it was about a snuff movie either.

I thought the Brando character wanted to come face to face with death by watching Depp be tortured and killed in that chair.

Maybe I missed something.

If it harms none, do what thou wilt.

It's film made for audience, who doesn't need everything telegraphed to them. Yes, "Brando character wanted to come face to face with death by watching Depp be tortured and killed in that chair", which is, I think, exactly why are these perverts watching snuff. Also Larry's "See you in the movies, Tonto" is sufficient clue for me.

For the hard evidence you may want to read the book, or at least, for example, fourth paragraph from this article http://www.johnnydeppfan.com/interviews/neon97.htm.

Clap... clap... clap... and the award for most obnoxious bellend goes to *drum roll* (Dirty)Sanchez6.

No matter what board you are on on IMDb there will always be somebody who acts like an intellectual superior because somebody else didn't 'get' their precious movie.

Thanks for the link but all it provided was an explaination that was not clear or even properly hinted at in the film, despite what you say. Then again; I am a massive cretin, maybe I should go back to my Michael Bay films eh?

Haha, thanks for a good laugh. I think movie is pretty good, but "my precious"? Lol. Sorry, I can't help myself...
So, is my fault you need everything telegraphed to you? OK, be angry and call me names, it's evidence you are not intellectually inferior.
I don't gonna argue with you about what is "properly" hinted and what's not, because perception of the sufficient hint is individual and depends on each viewer.

reply

I don't need everything telegraphed. There is nothing there. Nothing. Not. A. Thing. Everybody has their crap film that they like and will defend, yours in The Brave, fair enough. But don't try and pretend is contains something it doesn't because even after looking at the so called 'evidence' you provided it is clear there is still nothing more to this film than a tedious pace, a fat Brando and a fair ground nobody saw him building somehow.

Why are you so hysterical? It's only a movie... Lol

reply

Nobody who post on IMDb believes movies "are only" movies or they wouldn't be on here in the first place.

Raphael mentions it in his 'confession'... but before that, it's just assumed that the character knows, and the audience can guess, if they use their imagination.

Born when she kissed me, died when she left me, lived whilst she loved me

If I recall, didn't Raphael see a camera set up in the torture room?

reply

in the torture room there's a big camera set up pointed directly at the pain chair

reply

Didn't see the camera, but that right there does heavily imply a snuff film was made. The way I see it, this movie clues the viewers that a snuff film is being made with Raphael starring as the victim, but doesn't just say it outright. Good thing we didn't see it being made though. That would've taken away from the ending.

Welcome to my Nightmare- Freddy Krueger

It was never mentioned, only implied.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
