Ugh

Apologies to folks who loved this, but ugh this is bad. If it wasn't called "Borrowers" I could say it was a decent, if vapid, movie. However, three days ago I watched the Studio Ghibli rendition, Karigurashi no Arriety. That was excellent, it motivated me to delve into the story. I have since read all the books, watched the 1992 BBC miniseries and the 2011 TV movie. I just finished this movie today. Alas, I cannot locate the 70s movie. Out of all the ones I've seen, this is by far the worst implementation.

Spud Spiller? Really?? Peagreen is now a Clock rather than an Overmantle? There are suddenly hundreds of borrowers?? lol. The sole value of this film, IMO, is Hugh in this role :)

Well, that's not true. I also do rather like how it had a happy ending, with the "beans" and borrowers coexisting.

it is a wholly different plot, but i don't really think the books would make a suitable feature film, they are too leisurely and short on dramatic incident.
