Many women are cruel, manipulative bitches so no big surprise. My theory on her specifically is that she was riding the cawk carousel and got knocked up. She was a "good girl" so she married the father and hated her situation ever since. Eddie was the personification of her life getting effed up and she took it out on him.

I blame the dad for not putting her in line. He sat on the edge of the bed just listening to her abuse Dirk. What kind of "man" does that? She also snapped at him for kissing her in the morning because he hadn't shaved. She hated men. She would have hated what Dirk became.
