Seems like they were all clean living until that fateful night new years eve 1979, amber hooked dirk onto coke, then next thing ya know, dirk is smoking cigarettes, and so is reed and todd and all are doing coke on regular basis, wonder if jack knew amber got him hooked.. Yes, then all 3 were into doing coke and smoking tobacco ..
shareI kinda feel like both Reed and Todd had dabbled a little bit in drugs, but when a new leader of their group emerged in Dirk, they wanted to follow along with him.
I just think Reed and Todd were a little older then Dirk, and being around the industry during those years in Southern California, had no question tried coke once or twice.

That's not implied or suggested at all. Todd is scummy from the time you meet him. It's possible he got reed on them, but doubtful. I guess in movie world or whatever it's possible that reed abstained from drugs, but idk, I doubt it. The time and industry he was in was riddled with drugs so it's probably safe to assume he probably had dabbled. Todd was always a druggie. He was shady from the get go. There was never any point in the movie where they tried to portray him as clean living.
Now that I think about it some more your thoughts about Todd are completely wrong. The whole point of the Todd character is to be bad a bad influence on Dirk. He's a scummy character they surround him with to reiterate Dirk's downward spiral. I mean his whole thing is being a scumbag. That's like his whole existence in the film.
