Why wasn't Ray Charles in the sequel?

I'm tempted to say because he knew it would be terrible but I must admit, a version of "What'd I Say" could have been great!

I woundered that, too.

I think he died that year.

Ummm this came out in 1998, Ray died in 2004.

reply

Maybe he just wasn't feeling up to doing it because he was so old at the time.

reply

Common sense? This was a real turkey, I'm afraid. Most of the best gags are ripped off from the original anyway.

Ray does get one sly reference though - they drive past Ray's music exchange at one point, which has changed into something else.

because even a blind man could see that it was *beep*

According to IMDB, in 1998, under "Actor", Ray Charles appeared of 4 episodes of THE NANNY as "Sammy", and under "Self", he appeared on three other things. Numbers 23-25.

I've been wondering about the same thing too. They had James Brown return, but not Ray Charles? Maybe they couldn't find a scene to fit him in the movie.

Heh. Impossible. This movie was so slapped together they could have put in anything they wanted, anywhere they wanted. And if they took the trouble to bring back Blue Lou Marini, Kathleen Freeman and Jeff Morris from the first movie, they sure as hell would have brought back Ray Charles if they could.

Since Ray Charles appears in other acting roles in 1998, I think we just have to conclude that he didn't want to do it.
