This movie was annoying

I got so sick of Matthew Modine making out with hot chicks. That first scene with Annie 1 was just ridiculous. No one would actually do that, not in front of everyone else, not that long. Every time I felt another scene like that coming on (and there were a few more) I fast forwarded. Then, what the hell was Dennis Hopper supposed to be? A pornographer or a serious film maker? Hard to tell. He talked serious, but his "movies" were just naked women dancing around.

Also, they shouldn't have had Modine play an actor. I'm so sick of movies about Hollywood and actors. NO ONE CARES!

Finally, the ending was absurd. I won't give it away, but it didn't make any sense. And Claudia Schiffer (despite being beautiful) is not really an actress.

Despite all that, this movie did have some strong moments. I liked the beginning where Modine is talking to his shrink. Those scenes are strong. I liked his confusion, and his dread that he did something wrong. And Hopper was good at times. But there was no redemption here. What was the point of him sobering up and getting his life back together?

i wasn't that into this flick, but if you get into coke you'll understand a lot of those questions. those are just people you meet, things that happen when you're into that poison. hopper is a guy you wouldn't meet, or hang out with unless he had coke.

Yeah, Ferrara just canĀ“t help himself when it comes to parading naked flesh and other kinds of sleazoid material & depravity in front of the camera - and here he overdid to the point of ridicule (and/or annoyance, yes). Once a pornographer, always a pornographer, I guess.

"But there was no redemption here".

... which was kinda the 'point', I thought :)

Just rewatched this after having not seen it since it came out in 97 or 98. I enjoyed it much more this time around. However, I don't think Modine's character needs to be a movie actor other than it ties in with Hopper's character's 'video art' and the film's focus on performance and identity.

The ending doesn't make sense? I'd say it made as much sense as the rest of the film. It does indeed make for difficult viewing.

I saw this for Dennis Hopper, and this is one of his weaker films, but he made it worthwhile. As for what he's supposed to be? Abel Ferrara, of course!

I don't mind movies about actors. It certainly beats films about most other professions. But I didn't totally buy Matthew Modine in the druggy, sleazy role.

Still, I found enough in this film to like to give it 6/10 stars.

I can buy Modine being in a sleazy role. It's not his first. I like him as a good guy better, though.
