am i the only one

I really don't understand what attracts people in this movie. I never even made it to the credits, it just didn't grab me AT ALL... maybe it's because you guys identify with the characters (i read your topics about a rotten highschool time) but I didn't find the actors to be great performers actually...

Oh, and I just want to say I didn't post this to offend anyone, just looking for someone who shares my opinion =)

I love Chad, but this movie is yes very very very very bad. I cannot believe someone made this movie and I cant believe I watched the whole thing.

I knew to many guys that were like those people. Movie was alright. Didn't leave a big impression though.

Deicide sucks.

Somebody, flame me for saying that. Cause no matter what, they still suck.

Personally, I enjoyed this movie quite a bit -- not because I identified with any of the characters particularly well, but because I found the story interesting and engaging, to a degree. I can, however, understand your point of view equally as well. The very nuances that may cause one person (IE: me) to fall in love with a film like this could completely repel another person with differing taste. To each his own, I say.

And yes, Deicide does suck.

You know, I thought it was an alright movie until the bodies began to drop. Then it got a little stupid for me. If they had left it with the one guy who so badly wanted to become a member being murdered, it may have been better to me. Mabius killing his friend though kinda threw me off.

I heard it was based on a true story, anybody know the truths of this movie or am I wrong?

reply

it's interesting which story did they take.. the Black Circle was name of black metal followers in Norvay. They burned 20+ churches and were responsible for 3 or 4 kills. This all happened in 1992-1993. If ideas are taken from this film, I can say it is WAY too soft. And of course it still is about school boys, not some die hard head bangers.

reply

Does anybody know if this is available on region 2 dvd or vhs? I've been wanting to see this for absolutely ages (I'm a huge Eric Mabius fan) and I can't seem to find it anywhere in the U.K. Any help is very much appreciated.

Shaun : There is no "I" in "team", but there is an "I" in "pie".

The movie is VERY loosely based on the murder of a family of 4 in Bellevue, Washington in 1996 and the young men that did it, Alex Baranyi and David Anderson who are currently serving life sentences in Washington state. You can read the true story in book called "Deadly Secrets" by Putsata Reang. It's a very interesting read. I lived in Seattle at the time it happened and it's a very bizarre case.

Unlike movies such as fear-dot-com and Van Helsing, this movie is so bad that it's good. I remember renting it from a grocery store catalog at 1 AM in late 1999 or early 2000 and sampling the hell out of it between LMAO. I love the part when they finally get the instruments after talking about making a band all movie long... "1-2-3-4!!!! **noise, throws guitar down** I can't PLAY this piece of crap!!!" Awesome... even better is when the kid gives him the guitar, "Hey, check out all these features and knobs!" Classic american cinema. I'll have to see if I can snag this from Netflix and relive the memories.

thanks for the name of the book and author. now i will look for it

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today

reply

It is based loosely on events that happened on the east coast (gang related, I think) and also several events from the director's personal experiences, ie; losing a close friend.

That's kind of funny.

It's also very loosely based on Ricky Kasso. At least, the part where he kills Fairy is accurate, right down to the 'Say you Love Satan' part, which is the title of a book about Kasso.

reply

It's only based on the case of the "Acid King" Ricky Kasso. Since this happened very close to where I grew up, in a town called Northport on Long Island, it's always interested me. If we're going on how well it portrays events, bah, horrible. The Electric Hellfire Club song "Psychedelic Sacrifice" does it better in a few minutes. Ricky 6 is about a million times better, if you can find a dubbed tape on Ebay. I think the reason a lot of people (girls, in particular) like this movie is Eric Mabius. Okay, he's one of my favorite actors, but I also think he really inhabits his character well. Teenage girls also seem to dig the crazy bad boy thing.

reply

Your not the only one, I hated this film. I watched the whole thing, and it was horrible. The acting was laughable at best. The script was horrid too. Some of the lines were so bad I cringed.

I just finished watching this movie and I love it. Sounds like I'm the only one, too.

I thought the acting was great. I don't identify with any of the characters, even though I'm 16, I don't do drugs or alcohol, so I'm not sure why I like this movie so much... Guess it's just one of those love/hate type of movies.

reply

I dont identify with any characters, but I guess the only reason I liked this movie was because it's based on a true story and those movies always get me
Bully
Boys Don't Cry
Friday Night Lights
those kinds of things. And i am a girl, but i didnt like Eric Maibus (sp?)

this movie was bad. stupid. ridiculous. unwatchable. terrible. eric mabius is a great actor who hasn't really gotten his due yet. he's been in a couple bad movies, but his performance is always one of the things in those bad movies that compels you to keep watching anyway because he's tremendously talented (e.g., around the fire). The huge range of characters he's able to play is pretty amazing. it seems like he can slip into any sort of character he wants and makes it totally believable. however, even he sucked in this movie. he was way too over the top and melodramatic (although most of the blame for that probably falls to the director and screenplay writer, but still...). this movie just sucked. awful. not even mabius made it worth watching. they should find every print, video cassette, and dvd of this movie and burn them all to erase this horrible film from human history. it stinks, and i don't like it. do yourself a favor and don't watch it. life is too precious a thing to waste an hour and a half of it watching this garbage. i could probably keep going on and on and on, but i'm sure most people have stopped reading this by now anyway.... don't ever watch this movie...

I thought this was quite a good movie, and thought the acting was good also. Eric Mabius, and Scott Barstow made the movie seem quite realistic and believeable and i enjoyed watching it. I particularly like independant films such as this movie and also movies such as Chopper, etc because the movies seem more realistic than other high budget ones.
I know me saying this might make you all think that im against what your saying, but im not trying to critisize your thoughts and opinions anyway.

What attracts me is the unrealistic dialog, the one-dimensional stereotypical characters, the utter audacity of it all, and the many, many unintentionally hilarious scenes.

reply

I can't help it, I love this movie. I found it on Amazon a few years ago and I flipped my lid. And I watch it as often as I can. I remember one night when I was in high school, I caught this movie on HBO right after "Welcome To The Dollhouse" and I was just hooked. I think alot of the acting was pretty good. The boom mic thing is pretty funny, and there are some scenes that make me laugh, but I just love this movie.

Am I Insane? YES!!

reply

In all honestly only reason I watched it was because Donnie Wahlberg was in it. The movie itself seemed unbelievable but that is what made it real, kids these days will do anything to fit in reguardless of the stakes. The plot was subpar-acting was not the best even on Donnies part yet this was his second film. Eric Mabius, and Scott Barstow are good actors but this film did not do justice to the what the movie was truly about.
