Born before 1988

I have this theory, with some evidence to back it up, that anyone who was born before 1988 (currently older than 28 years old) love this movie. Anyone younger than 28 currently hates it. All my younger siblings hate, all my older ones love it. All of my co-workers upwards of 28 love it, all the youngsters, to use the parlance of our times, "are hatin' on it".

Over the weekend I watched it with a girl I am dating who is 26 and her best friend, 28.

Neither had ever seen it before and neither knew much about it other than they thought it was "a movie about bowling"

26 said it was the dumbest thing she had ever seen and "did not get it". 28 laughed almost constantly and said she loved it.

Obviously, this is just like, their own opinion, man but I am trying to figure out why there is this line in that sand that people do not cross.

your 'evidence' is based on your siblings and co workers? you may need to draw some water from a bigger pool, Wu.

Come on you old son-of-a-gun and hey, while you're at it let Buster do a line off your boner!

I was born in '94 and it's my all time favourite movie and I know a lot of other people around my age who absolutely love it as well. So, I don't think your theory holds much water. But, I also know a lot of people, of varying ages, who absolutely hate it. I think it's just a very devisive film; it doesn't matter how old you are, you either love it, or you hate it.

born in '94 qualifies you as a little lebowski urban achiever. and proud we are of all of you

I'm 25 and find it a decent movie. It's not brilliant but it is very funny and very entertaining

Sometimes young people are dumb and impatient. I was watching "Crouching Tiger" and the teenagers in front of me left; because "I don't wanna read the whole movie!"

Older people get Lebowski, because we've all been figuratively thrown out of a cab because someone else's taste sucks.

I was born in 1970. First viewing, ate an edible shortly before the movie started. 30 minutes later, I was digging the movie man. Oh watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. 2nd viewing the next day. Sober as can be and didn't laugh.

IDK, with all the hype I had to say 'Is this what everyone is gaga about? A fake kidnapping?' Surely there's more to this movie? But I guess it's not my style of movie if I can only enjoy it stoned.

Fake... allegedly, man! But more than just a kidnapping?

Not really. Or at least, not much.

You know, the dirty undies, occasional acid flashback, the pigs in zee blanket, the pederast jesus, the vaginal painting, In-and-Out burgers, the plumber, the creedence tapes, interpretive dance, tumbleweeds, The Eagles, the nihilists and their marmot, Jackie Treehorn's thugs, taking over administrative buildings, rolling on Shabbos, dying face down in the muck, the little achievers, Kraftwerk, the rug, Larry's homework, Arthur Sellars, strong men crying, Saddam Hussein, human paraquats, Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov Lenin and the tenets of National Socialism ... but that's about it.

Oh, and something about finding a stranger in the Alps.

Not really, man, she kidnapped herself! She's got to feed the monkey, I mean uh... hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? Sir?

Well written theory. Im in my late 30s. I havent seen the film since I was in my early 20s and I thought it sucked.

Time for a rewatch to test your theory.

I was born in 1996 and I enjoyed this film very much. It did what it was trying to do much better than Brick. I talked to a friend who was born in '93, and he also enjoyed it.

Born in 78. I think it's ok. Don't think it's a materpiece.
