Question re: final tightrope scene [*POSSIBLE SPOILER*]

I'm curious if anyone saw this clearer than I did. In the final tightrope scene, right before the closing credits, the two characters come to life a little--they're shown in color. I was confused about what I saw:

1. The tightrope walker is a woman, or a man dressed as a woman? And the person on the tightrope walker's shoulders looks like a woman dressed as a man, no?

2. Is Miriam one of the two? (That would just be symbolic of her helping John--whatever, walk the tightrope of life--which doesn't necessarily imply anything about whether she chooses him later.) Could anyone make out the other face? Or did both faces look vague and anonymous?

Thanks!

Hello SFMovieFan,

The tightrope walker is a man in a supposed 19th century costume. He was played by Matthias Traber, member of the famous Traber tightrope family.

The person on his shoulders should be John's (Daniel Craig's) grand mother in the story, who apparently looks similar to Miriam, which makes him fall in love with her. In real the actress Heike Makatsch (who played Miriam) sat on Traber's shoulder.

The scene was shot in a studio in Munich, Germany on a real rope at 3 to 4 meters height before a blue screen and then digitally assembled on to Niagara falls.

Best, Micki
